Mauritania's president meets first vice-speaker of Azerbaijan parliament

President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has today met with Azerbaijan's first vice-speaker of Parliament Ziyafet Asgarov.
The two discussed the bilateral cooperation, saying the official visit by the President opened “new stage” to develop relations.

They praised the signing of “important” documents during the visit.
Asgarov said the visit would also contribute to developing the interparliamentary ties.

The vice-speaker said the two countries enjoy “close” cooperation in the Unites Nations and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

He thanked the Mauritanian President for supporting Azerbaijan's “fair” position on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Asgarov gave detailed information about the recent developments concerning peace talks over the conflict.

The vice-speaker said Azerbaijan wishes to host the OIC's Summit in 2014, asking him to support the country`s candidacy. Asgarov also said that his country wants to put forward its candidacy to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013, adding “Azerbaijan needs a support from friendly nations”.

The Mauritanian President expressed assurance his visit would contribute to developing the bilateral ties.

He stated that his country was keen on boosting relations with Azerbaijan in all areas.

As to the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Mauritanian leader said his country has always supported Azerbaijan's position and will continue doing so.

Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz stressed the importance of establishing interparliamentary friendship groups to expand the cooperation between the Azerbaijani and Mauritanian legislative bodies.
