Signing of an association agreement between Azerbaijan and the European Union will provide a legal basis for development of relations between the parties and put more responsibility on them, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev said.
The EU-Azerbaijan talks on Association Agreement started in Baku today. The document is a follow up to the cooperation agreement signed in 1995.
Mammadguliyev said the agreement provides for deepening of political and economic dialogue between the parties, cooperation in the field of international security, stability and peace in the South Caucasus.
EU has the potential to resolve the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, which also has been reflected in the legal document," he added.
The EU delegation is led by South Caucasus Department Director John Kjaer.
