Pollution of the Kur River does not exceed a dangerous level, Georgian Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Goga Khachidze told journalists in the Gabala region of Azerbaijan today.

"Chemical and biological pollution of the Kura Rive does not exceed a dangerous level and there is no reason for panic," Khachidze said.
According to him, Georgia uses new technology to achieve a minimum of pollution.
"Not only Georgia, but also the international organizations check the level of contamination in the Kur River," Khachidze said.
Khachidze believes it is necessary to continue to cooperate across borders and jointly manage waste, as Kur River is used not only by Georgia. Based on the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry's regular monitoring of pollution in the transboundary Kur and Araz Rivers phenol and copper are strong pollutants.
Biogenic substances exceeded the norm at points where the river is subjected to transboundary contamination in Georgia and Armenia.
