Azerbaijani expert: Azerbaijan should not wait for Armenia to to voice its response to updated Madrid principles

19 June 2010 [12:42] - TODAY.AZ
“Armenia’s current stance is not surprising because the power in Armenia is held by those who acceded to it by speculating on a Karabakh theme,” Azerbaijani political expert, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Social-Democratic Party Araz Alizade said.
The party chief was commenting on Armenia’s delaying response to the updated Madrid principles. At the latest round of talks in St. Petersburg, Armenia once again shied away from expressing its attitude to the updated Madrid principles. Alizade believes that the greatest compromise on part of Azerbaijan is that it negotiates with war criminals.

“These people have been involved in heinous crimes against humanity, including genocide against peaceful Azerbaijani population in Khojaly. Given that many of them are natives of Azerbaijan, they might well be tried under the article "treason".

“Naturally, these criminals fail to admit that all their games which gave an opportunity to come to power, to rob their own people and become rich in the most backward and poor country in our region, ended up in zilch, and all Azerbaijani regions occupied by Armenia will be liberated sooner or later,” the expert added.

“Once this happens, all Serzhs and Robiks will be swept away by other Armenian politicians and Armenian people who could not achieve world recognition of the so-called "Nagorno Karabakh Republic", but got an oligopoly,” Alizade noted.

Social Democrat Party chief says that Azerbaijan should not wait for Armenia to voice its response to the updated document.

"Azerbaijan should conduct peaceful negotiations and, concurrently, strengthen its own army. At the right moment, pointing to the unconstructive position of Armenia and its disregard of rules of international law, Azerbaijan can take steps to restore its territorial integrity through military means.”

“The advantage of the Azerbaijani army over the Armenian army is already great, and it will keep growing further. This has caused a panic among Armenian citizens who are now concerned about one question: when Azerbaijan will start to restore its territorial integrity by force," Alizade said.
