18 June 2010 [09:45] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan`s prime minister Artur Rasizade has met President of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi.
Rasizade expressed confidence the Archibishop`s visit would “give impulse to developing friendly and cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and Vatican”.

The Azerbaijani premier noted reciprocal visits played significant role in strengthening a scientific exchange and expanding cultural cooperation and inter-civilizational dialogue. Rasizade also highlighted the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The prime minister pointed out Vatican could contribute to establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus. Archbishop Ravasi praised the level of tolerance in Azerbaijan.

He said Vatican was keen to develop relations with Azerbaijan, which, he added, had rich cultural values. Ravasi hailed Azerbaijan`s hosting high-level international events on interfaith dialogue. The Archbishop also said the Pontifical Council for Culture was interested in implementing joint social, scientific and cultural projects with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

He touched upon the cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Vatican.

“The Vatican Library is open for Azerbaijani scholars, and they can use rich material on their country`s history and culture. We also plan to help Azerbaijani students to get education and practice.”

“Mutual scientific and cultural cooperation will serve to develop inter-confessional relations,” added the Archbishop.
