Azerbaijani students evacuated in Kyrgyzstan

16 June 2010 [12:56] - TODAY.AZ
Eight Azerbaijani students were evacuated from the southern Jalalabad region of Kyrgyzstan to capital Bishkek, Advisor to Azerbaijani Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Vugar Ibrahimov said.
"Only 13 students from Azerbaijan, three of whom are Turkish nationals, were in the conflict zone. The students study in the Economics and Business University," Ibrahimov said.

According to Ibrahimov, one student lost his documents during the conflict. "We are taking the necessary measures to send students from Bishkek to Azerbaijan," he added.

Ibrahimov did not disclose the names of Azerbaijani students, noting that their parents are informed about the evacuation and their health status. The riots in southern Kyrgyzstan began on 10 June. Kyrgyz and Uzbek people clashed in the city of Osh. The inter-ethnic clashes later spread to neighboring region of Jalalabad.

The Kyrgyz Health Ministry reported that death toll reached 187 people on June 16. As many as 600 Azerbaijanis reside in Osh and Jalalabad regions of Kyrgyzstan.
