U.S. congresswoman congratulates Azerbaijan on Republic Day

She said Azerbaijan gave women the right to vote in 1919 before the United States did. Woolsey noted Azerbaijan's aspiration for independence and democracy became a reality when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. She praised the Azerbaijani people's continuous efforts towards building a strong democracy.

Besides Woolsey, another four U.S. congressmen made statements on the Republic Day of Azerbaijan over the past week describing the country as an important partner for the United States. They said the United States should place more emphasis on Azerbaijan taking into account the importance of the country for the region. This shows how much importance the U.S. Congress attaches to Azerbaijan.
