Azerbaijani MP on Armenian authorities' stance in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement

02 June 2010 [16:37] - TODAY.AZ
"Armenia’s state policy has experienced no changes over the past 20 years. This ideology implies that Armenia is allegedly a long-suffering country, languishing in the grip of Muslim encirclement,” member of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (parliament) Sabir Rustamkhanli said commenting on stance of current Armenian authorities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Yerevan is constantly seeking sympathy from world community and, unfortunately, this policy arouse some response from the countries concerned, the MP said.

“Azerbaijan should not make more compromise even for the sake of advance in the peaceful resolution process. It can encourage the aggressor to ask even more concessions. Those who are well familiar with psychology of the Armenian elite, say this,” Rustamkhanli said.

The MP says Armenia simply buys time in settlement of the conflict.

“Yerevan will play for time as long as possible. If the OSCE Minsk Group puts pressure on Armenia to finally determine its attitude to the updated Madrid principles, we may witness a well-known scenario of replacement of a government in Armenia. The current authorities in Yerevan will ve replaced by others who will again play for time. Armenia lacks forces capable of taking responsibility for resolving the Karabakh conflict. The Armenian diaspora has a great weight and role in the settlement process than Sargsyan's government," the parliamentarian said.

Rustamkhanli said he did not believe Armenia will voluntarily free Azerbaijani territories around Nagorno-Karabakh, adding that Yerevan will use these areas for political speculation. Armenian authorities behave as if they suffer from amnesia, saying Armenia has nothing to do with the conflict with Armenians of Karabakh being the conflicting party.

"But many international organizations do not succumb to such tricks and make it clear to Armenia that it must  liberate Azerbaijan’s territories.”

Azerbaijan has the right to liberate its land by any means. Azerbaijan should show strength and determination to restore the sovereignty throughout its territory," the MP noted.
