Heads of Azerbaijan local authorities visit France

Heads of local authorities from a number of Azerbaijan regions have visited France this week to learn about experience of French municipalities, water supply, environment protection, domestic waste recycling.
The delegation visited Paris municipality, mayor's offices of 11th and 13th districts of Paris. Deputy Mayor of Paris 11th district and Head of Executive Power of Baku's Yasamal district Ibrahim Mehdiyev discussed cooperation and what Paris local authorities do.

Discussions also revolved around development of biodiversity, budget and technical opportunities. The delegation of Azerbaijan visited the Cergy-Potoise, agglomeration near Paris where they were briefed about the history of its creation.

In the 1960s, faced by the fast development of Paris and its suburbs, it was decided to control and balance it by creating several new cities around Paris. Azerbaijani governors viewed a waste recycling plant as well as public entertainment center.

Deputy Mayor for Foreign Affairs Shapira touched on cooperation issues and stressed the need for Baku to become a member of the World Cities Union. French delegation's visiting Baku was discussed to prepare projects on cooperation between Paris and Baku.

Azerbaijani ambassador Elchin Amirbeyov told of France's political processes, France-Azerbaijan bilateral ties and prospects for development of cooperation between the two countries.
