21 May 2010 [10:23] - TODAY.AZ
The resolutions of the United Nations Security Council concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict unambiguously demand return of people who became refugees as a result of the war to their homelands, said Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Walter Kalin while meeting Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov.

The UN official highlighted the importance of execution of those resolutions. Kalin said ongoing peace talks are of “great” significance.

The Azerbaijani minister informed the UN official about the current state of the peace talks over the conflict. Mammadyarov spoke of measures undertaken by the Azerbaijani government to improve the living situation of refugees and IDPs. The chief diplomat said the conflict must be solved within norms and principles of international law, and Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.

“People subjected to ethnic cleansing must return to their birthplaces,” the minister underlined.
