Pentagon's senior officers visit Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy

17 May 2010 [11:32] - TODAY.AZ
A delegation of the US National War College, consisting of senior military officers of the Pentagon, visited the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy today as part of their trip to the Southern Caucasus.

ADA Rector, Ambassador Hafiz Pashayev welcomed the guests and talked to them about the Academy, the expansion of our diplomatic missions and need for young, and well-prepared diplomats and civil servants. Speaking on U.S.-Azerbaijan relations, Ambassador Pashayev reiterated that some vital energy projects in Azerbaijan were made possible with the strong support of previous U.S.

Administrations. He referred to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as “the main problem of Azerbaijan” and went to say that certain interest groups in the U.S. Congress have created a false image of Azerbaijan and that the Amendment 907 to the Freedom Act is an example of lobbying efforts of anti-Azerbaijani forces in Congress. Ambassador Pashayev called for the repeal of Section 907 and said that it would boost the image of the US in Azerbaijan.

At the end of meeting, the delegation of the National War College and ADA students and staff enjoyed a lively chat.
