Azerbaijan normally assesses PACE monitoring committee report

15 May 2010 [11:30] - TODAY.AZ
Paris will host a meeting of the PACE Monitoring Committee on May 19, which will be the second meeting prior to the PACE June session, which will cover issues over Azerbaijan, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov briefed the media in Baku on May 14.

"Today I was sent a report. In principle, it is normal, but of course, there are a lot of points with which we disagree and are not true, but nevertheless, the report will be finalized by the June session, and the tone in which rapporteurs Andreas Herkel and Joseph Debono Grech shall submit a report is more balanced than last year," said Seyidov.

According to Seyidov, it is not so much due to the fact that they have changed their attitude toward Azerbaijan, but due to the fact that Azerbaijan's position in the Council of Europe has strengthened much.

"In addition to the two rapporteurs, Azerbaijan is well familiar directly to the European MPs," said Seyidov.

According to Seyidov, presenting Azerbaijan in the biased light is unprofitable firstly for the rapporteurs. "We hope that the discussions will be constructive and useful for Azerbaijan," said Seyidov.
