Czech Deputy PM: Czech Republic considers Azerbaijan as strategic partner - PHOTOS

Czech Republic considers Azerbaijan as one of the most important strategic partners, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout said today in Baku. According to him, opening of the Czech Embassy in Azerbaijan despite the economic problems in the country proves it.

Czech Republic and Azerbaijan are successfully cooperating in many spheres, especially in the energy sector, Kohout said at a press conference after talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov.

"At present, 25% of oil used by Czech Republic is purchased from Azerbaijan," the minister said.

According to Kohout, besides, Czech Republic also interested in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan in such fields as infrastructure construction, tourism, in the sphere of water purification, as well as science and education. An agreement on air transport between Baku and Prague was signed in Baku as a result of talks between the two ministers.

Regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Kohout said that the Czech Republic is interested in assistance to the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and is ready to support negotiations between the sides.

"We always refer to the norms and principles of international law and the Madrid document reflects the principles of territorial integrity of countries," Kohout added.
