We must increase our efforts to implement the resolutions adopted by the Council of Europe (CoE), said the CoE Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland during a speech to European parliamentarians on the second day of the PACE spring session, responding to the question by the member of the Azerbaijani delegation Ganira Pashayeva.
Azerbaijani MP said that many resolutions adopted by the Council of Europe have not been implemented yet.
"You have stressed the importance of reforms in the PACE. The fact is that many of the PACE resolutions have not been implemented for many years. And this is one of the main factors negatively affecting the image and influence of the organization. PACE adopted a resolution in 2005 under the number 1416, related to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but it has not been implemented yet. The resolution stressed that Armenia should withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani territories and it must ensure the return of Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons their native lands. What steps do you think to take in this regard?," asked MP Ganira Pashayeva.
Secretary General of the Council of Europe said that until today a lot of resolutions of the Council of Europe have not been fulfilled.
"In principle you are right that many resolutions of the Council of Europe have not been implemented until today. We have gathered here in order to increase our efforts to implement these resolutions. The process of solving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is carried out by the OSCE Minsk Group. I think the CoE will not interfere in this process," said the general secretary.
