Azerbaijani Justice Minister elected vice president of United Nations Congress

The Twelfth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice took place in Brazil, the Justice Ministry said.

The Congress was held from April 12 till April 19 in Salvador, Brazil. About three thousand representatives from all countries, including Justice and Interior ministers, General Prosecutors, other governmental officials, high-level representatives from authoritative international institutions attended the forum. Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation headed by Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov. Azerbaijani delegation included representatives from General Prosecutor’s Office, Justice, National Security and Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The leadership of Congress was formed at the opening ceremony of this event which is held every five years and identifies policies to prevent crime at the global level. Brazilian Justice Minister Luiz Paulo Barreto was elected the President of the Congress, and Azerbaijani Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov was elected one of the vice-presidents of the Congress.

Delivering speech at the event, Azerbaijani Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov noted the events on strengthening international cooperation and criminal justice system, and for prevention of crime. Moreover Mammadov spoke about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, occupation of our territories by Armenians, and about million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons.

Salvadoran resolution on strengthening the efforts against crime was adopted at the end of the meeting.
