Azerbaijan participates in Vienna Marathon

Azerbaijan participates in the annual marathon for the second time. It has been taken place since 1984 with the participation of professional athletes from different world countries, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Austria said.

Azerbaijani representative took part in the marathon for the first time in 2009.

Military attache, Lieutenant-Colonel Kamil Guliyev represented Azerbaijan this year. He competed in the team of military attaches of embassies accredited in Austria.

Military representatives from the U.S., Great Britain, Germany, France, Austria, Holland, Turkey and Hungary participated in competitions. Guliyev played in a team with representatives from Austria, Great Britain and Hungary.

Azerbaijani representative has shown good results. Marathon winners were awarded with special certificates and medals.

Participants of the Goodwill Marathon transferred funds to the research laboratory's account to prevent cancer at Children's Hospital, St. Anne, the report said.

More than 32,000 fans of sports in six categories participated in the marathon. Kenya's representative Henry Sugut was among professional athletes. He won 42.195-kilometer-Vienna Marathon for 2 hours 8 minutes 40 seconds.
