Azerbaijani embassy in Russia believes CSTO attempts to interfere Azerbaijan's internal affairs

15 January 2010 [14:24] - TODAY.AZ
“Reaction of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to the Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu’s statement is surprising”, said Azerbaijani embassy in Russia in its statement.
"It is surprising that CSTO Secretariat, main duty of which is to coordinate security-aimed army-building issues in member countries, comments on the statement by the ambassador of Azerbaijan, a country which does not question territorial integrity and sovereignty of any country," the embassy said.

"The Secretariat distorted the ambassador’s statement which was a call for liberation of the territories of Azerbaijan recognized at the international level, including by CSTO member countries except Armenia, and occupied as a result of aggressive war”.

The embassy once again stressed the principal position of Azerbaijan which implies resolution to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through the OSCE Minsk Group efforts based on international law and within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

The embassy said Azerbaijan achieved reliable partnership relations with many countries, including some CSTO members displaying good and constructive will.

“Taking into consideration some noticed points, the embassy considers the CSTO Secretariat’s press release exceeding its authority as an attempt to interfere in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs. The embassy hopes that CSTO Secretariat will be more sensible of responsibility while making such kind of statements”.

It should be reminded that Ambassador Bulbuloglu said “it’s time to liberate occupied lands of Azerbaijan. If Azerbaijan launches war, no one will have the right to interfere, since Azerbaijan will fight in its own territory for liberation of its lands on the basis of UN resolutions”.

CSTO said in a statement that “such approach leads to aggravation of regional situation, and goes counter to OSCE MG efforts and Armenia-Azerbaijan presidential negotiations’ context”.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization was established in 1992 by Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
