American Azerbaijanis sent over 100,000 emails, faxes and letters to different U.S. officials last year

In the course of the past year, American Azerbaijanis sent over 100,000 emails, faxes and letters to different U.S. officials expressing their concerns about various issues – Nagorno-Karabakh, regional security and other, U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) said.

The Network reports that some 30 articles on Azerbaijan have been published in the U.S. media last year.

“We contributed to the growing interest for objective information about Azerbaijan and Diaspora among graduate students, researchers, and journalists as USAN became actively involved in providing this information, that became part of research papers and news articles," USAN source added.

The organization points out that USAN was recognized by POLITICO magazine (Congressional political newspaper) as the Azerbaijani-American nationwide grassroots advocacy organization that counters efforts by such Armenian lobby groups as Armenian Assembly of America.

Another success of American Azerbaijanis is that the organization had the first-ever official proclamation by the Governor of Nevada commemorating the March 31 (Day of Genocide against Azerbaijanis) as the Azerbaijan Remembrance Day.

“Despite massive protests from the Armenian lobby, our community and friends were able to persuade the Governor’s office to not rescind the proclamation," the USAN source said.

The organization also assures that such activities will be continued during the year 2010.
