Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Council of Europe appraise Azerbaijani municipal elections

The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe appraises holding of municipal elections in Azerbaijan, Vice-President of the Congress Jean-Claude Frécon said at the news conference in Baku today.

The observations showed the need to improve the quality of the ballots, he said.

The observation mission monitored the voting process at more than 100 constituencies.

The mission assessed the organization of elections as satisfactory from a material point of view.

However, the observers recorded some violations, he added.

The observation mission will release preliminary results of the Azerbaijani municipal elections on Jan. 15 at the Congress' meeting.

The final report will be presented in March, Frécon said.

He thanked the Azerbaijani authorities for the assistance.
