Free airtime to be provided for municipal election candidates in Azerbaijan

"For the purpose of -election campaign, prior to municipal elections, free airtime and print space will be allocated in the media for political parties or blocs to which they belong, and candidates who were registered in more than half of the municipalities in the in Public Television and radio, newspapers of "Azerbaijan", "Khalg qazeti", "Respublika"," the Central Election Commission (CEC) said.

Municipal elections in Azerbaijan will be held on Dec. 23. As many as 15,682 members are envisaged to be elected for 1,718 municipalities.

Municipal elections in the country were held twice - in 1999 and 2004.
