There is crisis inside Movement for Karabakh and Republic: Azerbaijan’s opposition party chief

15 October 2009 [12:34] - TODAY.AZ
There is a crisis inside the political Movement for Karabakh and the Republic, so participation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP) in the municipal elections still remains in question, Azerbaijan’s opposition ADP Chairman Sardar Jalaloglu said.
He said the party had decided earlier to participate in the elections as part of a the movement.

"Internal discussions that are held in the Azadliq bloc will be completed by end of the week. If the parties reach a unanimous agreement, we will participate in the elections as part of the bloc. If not, I does not exclude ADP’s involvement in the municipal elections independently,” Jalaloglu said.

Earlier Musavat Party invited Umid Party to withdraw its representatives from electoral commissions. In response, the Umid Party made a different proposal, namely to recall the opposition MPs from parliament, in which a group of Musavat is composed of five members.

"The collapse of the Movement for Karabakh and Republic is not excluded. We try to ensure that this did not happen, but not everything depends on us,” he said.

The initiator of the civil Movement for Karabakh and Republic was Azadlig bloc consisting of three parties - Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Liberal Party of Azerbaijan and the Party of Civil Development. The Azerbaijan Democratic Party, Umid Party and Musavat, as well as several NGOs also joined this initiative.
