Azerbaijani left party proposes to discuss Turkey-Armenia protocols in parliament

14 October 2009 [13:24] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani People's Socialist Party sent a proposal to Milli Majlis (parliament) to hold discussions on signing of the protocols on normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
Turkish and Armenian foreign ministers Ahmet Davutoglu and Edward Nalbandian signed the Ankara-Yerevan protocols in Zurich on Oct. 10.

Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan have been severed since 1993 due to occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia and Armenia's claims of so-called "genocide."

Azerbaijani People's Socialist Party proposes to hold discussions in the parliament before ratification of the protocols in the Turkish legislative body, chairman of the party Rovshan Huseynov told reporters.

The party also proposes to recall Azerbaijani ambassador to Turkey and reconsider participation of the country in the international projects with Ankara's participation.

Huseynov said that signing of the protocols was advantageous for neither Azerbaijan nor Armenia which lost such an ally as Russia. Only Turkey gained in this issue, he said.
