Azerbaijan’s communist party: There can be no leftist bloc at current stage

13 October 2009 [09:45] - TODAY.AZ
Communist Party of Azerbaijan (CPA) does not intend to engage in any blocs or alliances on the eve of municipal elections, CPA chairman Rauf Gurbanov said.
He said any negotiations with parties are not conducted currently.

"At current stage there can be no bloc of left parties. The parties will participate in elections in the bloc once there is a need. For this, initially a common strategy must be developed and a program must be approved."

“A year ago CPA took the initiative to create a single bloc of left-wing forces, which aimed at participation of parties in the upcoming municipal elections. However, the alliance was not created for several reasons, and I do not think it is real at this time,” he said.
“We are proponents of leftist bloc, which will be able to collect their electorate, but it is a question of the future,” he said.

Gurbanov also noted that the party is actively preparing for the upcoming elections to be held on Dec. 23.
