Nagorno-Karabakh is problem for all Turkish people: chairman of Turkey-Azerbaijan parliamentary friendship group

12 October 2009 [12:37] - TODAY.AZ
Settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem is important for the Parliament and entire Turkish people, chairman of Turkey-Azerbaijan friendship group Mustafa Kabakci said addressing the Turkish legislative body.
"It is early to forecast whether Armenia-Turkey protocols will be ratified in the Turkish parliament. But Azerbaijani people can be sure that the Nagorno-Karabakh problem is the problem for entire Turkish people," Kabakci said.

Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Edward Nalbandian and Ahmet Davutoglu signed the protocols in Zurich on Oct. 10.

Armenian-Turkish diplomatic ties have been severed since 1993 due to Armenia's claims of an alleged genocide and the country's occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands.

Kabakci said that as before Turkey will support Azerbaijan irrespective of its political course.

"All representatives of Turkish political elite hold common position on the Nagorno-Karabakh problem irrespective of their party membersips, including Liberals, Nationalists and Islamists," he said.

Yesterday [Oct. 11], Turkish Prime-Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that serious progress was not expected to take place between Turkey and Armenia without settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, Kabakci said.

"I think that the Turkish government will fulfill its promises and keep above-mentioned positions," he said.
