Azerbaijan opens honorary consulate in Genoa

Azerbaijan has opened its Honorary Consulate in Genoa, Italy.
The Consulate is to provide consular services for four regions in Italy – Liguria, Piemonte, Valle d`Aosta and Lombardy, according to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Rome.

The opening ceremony started with a joint press conference of Azerbaijan`s Ambassador Emil Karimov and Head of the Honorary Consulate Margherita Costa.

Newly appointed consulate Margherita Costa said “Azerbaijan has an ancient history and rich culture”.

Azerbaijan ambassador to Italy Emil Karimov stressed the importance of opening of the country`s first consulate in Italy.

“It will contribute to developing bilateral relations between the two countries”, he added.

Karimov also underlined Costa gained the sympathy of Azerbaijan`s people during her ambassador`s activity in the country.

The Azeri ambassador praised the level of bilateral relations between the two countries, adding “Italy is one of our major economic partners”.

Karimov also praised Azerbaijani nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in “bringing the two nations closer to each other”.

“The national leader`s visit to Italy laid ground for overall development of the Azerbaijani-Italian relationship.”

“And President Ilham Aliyev`s official visits to Italy gave a new impetus to boosting the bilateral relations,” the Ambassador added.

Liguria region`s officials, representatives of Genoa Mayor`s office, foreign honorary consulates and journalists were present at the ceremony.
