Azerbaijan must insist on promises made by Turkish officials: political expert

"Azerbaijan’s officials have made it clear to the Turkish leadership that if they try to exchange a matter of support to Azerbaijan in its just demands to restore the territorial integrity to the fact that Armenia will no longer talk about "genocide" and the Turks no longer will support Azerbaijan, it would harm Azerbaijan-Turkish strategic partnership,” Musabayov said.

"Azerbaijan can lose confidence not in Turkey itself, but in Turkish leadership, which is unlikely to bring dividends to Turkey. I think Azerbaijan has made this clear to the Turkish leadership,” the political expert said.

"I think that Azerbaijan should just insist on those promises made publicly by officials of Turkey that the Turkish-Armenian border will not be opened until there is progress in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and that Turkey will not reduce, but rather increase support for Azerbaijan,” he added.

As to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s Moscow trip which will take place today Musabayov said he does not think that this trip is connected with the signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols.

"Most likely, this trip is due to the fact that quite a difficult economic situation in Armenia forces it to request additional support from Russia. It is hard to me to say what Armenia will offer in exchange of Russia’s support,” he said.

"If this would entail changing unconstructive position of Armenia in the Karabakh settlement, it will be an additional advantage in strengthening Azerbaijan-Russia relations,” the political expert said.
