Council of CIS Foreign Ministers approves measures to boost border security in Commonwealth

The Council of Foreign Ministers of CIS at its meeting in Chisinau approved a decision on measures to strengthen border security under the concept of coordinated border policy of CIS member states dated Aug. 26, 2005.
Chairman of CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev said the document was due to the need to establish more effective mechanisms to ensure border security and formation of modern image of external borders of CIS member states.

The CIS foreign ministers took note of information on measures to strengthen border security under the concept of coordinated border policy of the CIS member states which contains 8 priority areas for further cooperation in the field of border security.

They include active implementation of new forms and methods of protection of external borders in practice, enhancing cooperation of border agencies within CIS and other international organizations, search of unified approaches in staff training.

Council of Commanders of Border Troops was assigned to intensify efforts to attract the interested agencies of the member states and the bodies of the CIS to implement the Action Plan to implement the concept of coordinated border policy of CIS countries in 2007-2010 as well as prepare and submit draft plan of the same name to the Council of Heads of State in the prescribed manner in 2011-2015
