09 October 2009 [08:37] - TODAY.AZ
The presidents could bring closer the positions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, OSCE Minsk Group Russian Co-Chair Yuriy Merzlyakov said commenting on the seventh meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan held in Chisinau on Oct. 8.

The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan expressed their desire to meet again, Merzlyakov said.

"Presidents charged their foreign ministries with the preparation of the next meeting, time and venue of which will be known soon," Merzlyakov said.

He said today [Oct. 8] the presidents discussed the issues on which there was no understanding previously.

Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia asked OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to include recommendations in the Madrid document, the U.S. co-chair Robert Bradtke told journalists Friday in Chisinau after presidents' meeting.

"The basic principles of the document are items of non-use of force, the right of self-determination and territorial integrity,” said Bradtke. “ Presidents agreed with that."

“Presidents seek ways of rapprochement,” Bradtke said.

"This is my first meeting with the presidents. They paid a great attention to the problem discussed and listened to each other's opinion,” Bradtke added.

This was the seventh meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan  held on peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents held previous talks on peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in Moscow on July 17-18.

The fifth meeting on conflict resolution between the two leaders was held in St. Petersburg on June 4. The previous meeting was held in Prague on May 7. The first meeting was held in St. Petersburg in June 2008, the second meeting in Moscow in late November 2008 and the third was held in Zurich on Jan. 28, 2009.
