Baku hosts conference “NATO/ PfP defence policy and strategy”

Baku is hosting conference “NATO/ PfP defence policy and strategy” organized by Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Representatives of Azerbaijani security agencies, NATO experts and military attachés accredited in Azerbaijan are attending the conference.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said in his remarks that NATO should give guarantee of security not only to its members, but also to its partners.

“Euro-Atlantic security depends on the joint activity of the members with the partners. Being a partner we are working on our joint policy with NATO. Azerbaijan took a active part in the peacemaking missions in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. We are increasing our peacekeepers in Afghanistan,” he said.

NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning Jiri Sedivy spoke about the security policy of the alliance. NATO official said due to the happenings of the past ten years the alliance was obliged to make changes to its strategy. NATO is reconsidering its policy with the partners.

Reports on NATO’s transformation, future policy with partners, process of new defence planning, the role of partnership countries in the peacemaking operations will be made at the conference.
