Turkish MP nominated for PACE presidency

A meeting of European Democrat Group (EDG) has today been held within the framework of the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
Chief Delegate of Turkey in PACE Movlut Chavushoglu was officially nominated for the post of the assembly's presidency on behalf of the group at the meeting.

Two deputies were nominated from the EDG. Chavushoglu gained more votes than EDG Chairman David Wilshire and was officially nominated on behalf of the group.

Election for the post of the PACE presidency is held every two years.

Current President Luis Maria de Puch was elected to the post in winter session, 2008.

The next election will be held in PACE’s winter session in January 2010.
