Issue of joint use of Gabala radar may be updated: political expert

17 September 2009 [14:33] - TODAY.AZ
“I do ot rule out that U.S. may resume talks with Russia on joint use of Gabala radar station,” Azerbaijani political expert Rasim Musabayov said commenting on media reports claiming that the U.S. administration plans not to deploy missile defense system in Czech republic and Poland.
“The fact is that U.S. refused the Czech Republic and Poland not because of the Gabala radar station. U.S. once again assessed the situation and felt that the threat for which it was to create a territory to neutralize it is not so relevant yet. And the system they were going to deploy there is not perfect yet,” he said.

"But I do not rule out that under the potential threat, in general, as there is in Iran, the U.S. may try to create a cheaper neutralizing system with inclusion of Russia’s capabilities,” he added.

"The issue of using Gabala radar station can be updated in this case. But as far as it proves to be productive, I think it has not been decided yet to what extent it can actually be used and to what extent it is necessary to Azerbaijan. It is still question of negotiations,” Musabayov said.
