Azerbaijani president receives ambassadors of Muslim countries - UPDATE

The Azerbaijani leader congratulated ambassadors and asked them to convey his congratulations to the heads of states and governments of their countries.

President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to effective cooperation with Muslim nations. The President pointed out he will spare no efforts to further develop relations with them.

“Political, humanitarian and economic cooperation of Azerbaijan with Muslim nations meets our interests”, Ilham Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani leader also praised cooperation among Muslim countries within international organizations, including the United Nations and Organization of Islamic Conference.
He said a resolution on situation in Nagorno-Karabakh was adopted in UN General Assembly last year due to full support of Muslim countries.

The President said Azerbaijan is also making necessary efforts to contribute to strengthening Islamic solidarity. “Strengthening of Islamic solidarity is of great significance for us”, he added.
The Head of State said Azerbaijan hosted various events serving Islamic solidarity and will continue this tradition.

Ilham Aliyev praised ambassadors` efforts to boost bilateral relations.

Touching upon holy Ramadan, the President said Azerbaijan people have always marked it ‘but started to celebrate it as an official holiday after the country regained its independence.’
Speaking on behalf of Muslim ambassadors attending the meeting, Uzbek diplomat Ismatilla Ergashev congratulated the Azerbaijani leader on the holy Ramadan. He wished the President and the Azerbaijan people peace and progress.

The ambassador said Azerbaijan is the powerful nation thanks to not only its economic progress and international prestige, but also to its rich cultural and intellectual potential.
The Uzbek diplomat said Azerbaijan achieved all these important accomplishments thanks to efforts of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev.

“We hail dynamic economic and social reforms carried out in the country”, he noted.
He said Azerbaijan is strengthening its position in the world due to President Ilham Aliyev`s successful policy. “Today Azerbaijan is a country which ensures stability and progress in the South Caucasus”, Ergashev said.

The ambassador also praised Azerbaijan`s efforts to strengthen solidarity among Muslim countries.

Touching upon Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the diplomat said majority of OIC members supports respective resolutions of the UN Security Council. According to him, the conflict must be solved on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
