Azerbaijani president receives EU energy commissioner

Mr. Piebalgs congratulated the Azerbaijani leader on the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Contract of the Century, and offered him greetings of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso.

Andris Piebalgs praised the Azerbaijani government`s attention to the education sector, pointing out to the President`s opening a new school in Baku today.

Mr. Piebalgs praised the Azerbaijan-EU relations, saying the organization is keen to expand the bilateral cooperation.

President Ilham Aliyev touched upon the importance of the Contract of the Century.
“Our country has followed a great path of development over these 15 years, and energy achievements have greatly contributed to our successes.”

The Azerbaijani leader recalled his last visit to the European Commission, describing it as a success.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope the cooperation between the country and the organization would continue to develop.

“The European neighborhood policy, the EU Eastern Partnership program and energy dialogue are the issues that are bound up together, and we have achieved good results in all directions.”
The Azerbaijani President asked Andris Piebalgs to convey his greetings and best regards to the European Commission chief.
