OSCE special representative appreciates establishment of Fund for State Support to Media Development: senior Azerbaijani official

"Yesterday's meeting with Miklos Haraszti focused on prospects of adopting the Law on Defamation in Azerbaijan, as well as establishment of the Fund for State Support to Media Development and holding a grant competition for them. Haraszti appreciated the establishment of the fund," he said.

Hasanov said they also discussed the current situation with the media.

"We debated issues that he was concerned with. He expressed a particular concern on the arrest of two journalists," he said.

Hasanov said there are no reasons for concerns over this situation as it corresponds to the law of Azerbaijan.

"In general, the current situation with media in Azerbaijan was assessed as normal."

Hasanov said they also mentioned some problems in this area and the importance of Azerbaijan's joint efforts with the OSCE and international European institutions in this regard.
