Iran elects its first female minister

A female candidate has been approved for the new Cabinet of Ministers for the first time in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Marzieh Vahid Dastjerdi has been elected Minister of Health today. About 185 MPs have voted for her.

The Parliament has launched discussion on a new Cabinet last Sunday. Total of 286 MPs participated in the meeting.

The Cabinet will include 21 ministers (minister of industry, minister of culture, minister of internal affairs, minister of science, minister of urban planning and housing, minister of oil, minister of energy, minister of labor, minister of prosecution, minister of defense, minister of transport, minister of social welfare, minister of education, minister of communication, minister of security, minister of economy, minister of foreign affairs, minister of trade, minister of health, minister of agriculture and minister of cooperatives).
