“Turkmenistan has always been jealous of Azerbaijan’s oil strategy,” Azerbaijani political expert Fikrat Sadigov said commenting on Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov’s plans to establish country’s naval base on the Caspian Sea.

“In any case, establishing a military base is not a very positive factor, but I think that this applies to the Turkmenistan’s Caspian Sea sector and has nothing to do with us. Any attempt by Turkmenistan to impede further implementation of Azerbaijan oil strategy is doomed to failure due to the fact that there are interests of great powers such as the EU and the United States in the Caspian Sea,” Sadigov said.
‘The fact that Azerbaijan independently pursues its oil strategy and has achieved iimplementation of oil communication across the country to Europe, apparently, withdrew Turkmenistan from the equilibrium finally,” the political expert said.
“Turkmenistan is also trying very unsuccessfully to balance between Russia and the West,” he added.
“Azerbaijan has so close ties with Americans and Russians that all these military bases, threats, open dissatisfaction that Turkmenistan demonstrates will not give positive results and will not harm Azerbaijan’s oil sector,” he said.
