Kazakh ambassador to Azerbaijan briefs on talks between SOCAR, KazMunaiGaz

Negotiations between SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) and the Kazakh KazMunayGaz on Kazakhstan Caspian transportation system (KCTS) is successfully continuing, Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov told journalists at a news conference.
Primbetov said it is planned to transport about 23 million tons of oil per year through the Azerbaijani territory at the first phase of this project.

It is necessary to create new infrastructure to implement the KCTS project. The Kazakhstan Caspian Transportation System (KCTS) is intended for exporting the increasing volumes of Kazakh oil, which will be produced especially on Kashagan and Tengiz fields, via the Caspian Sea to international markets via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and other oil systems located on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

KCTS will consist of two segments: Eskene-Kurik pipeline on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Trans-Caspian project (consisting of: a terminal at the Kazakh coast of the Caspian Sea, tankers and vessels, the terminal in the Azerbaijani coast of the Caspian Sea and connecting facilities to the system of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan).
