Azerbaijan’s pro-opposition party to nominate candidates for majority of municipalities

28 August 2009 [11:06] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan’s pro-opposition Adalat Party is currently nominating candidates to run for the coming municipal elections set for December, party’s deputy chairman Mutallim Rahimli said.
He said party’s Supreme Body will meet in September to approve a list of candidates.

“Naturally, some party’s activists are not determined to take part in the elections. But we plan to nominate candidates for great part of municipalities,” he said.

“The party has decided to participate in the coming elections independently. We are not going to join any alliance or bloc,” Rahimli said.

The number of municipalities was reduced from 2,757 to 1,766 in Azerbaijan recently.

Party Azadlig is chaired by member of parliament Ilyas Ismayilov.
