I doubt meeting of Caspian littoral countries’ heads of states will mark breakthrough

24 August 2009 [15:31] - TODAY.AZ
“I think meeting of the heads of states of the Caspian littoral countries will take place in a normal and friendly manner,” Azerbaijani political expert Rasim Musabayov said commenting on informal meeting of the Caspian littoral countries’ heads of states to be held in Aktau in September 13.
“Host of the meeting is Kazak president Nursultan Nazarbayev. He is very experienced and respected leader. I think the meeting will be held in a friendly manner. But I doubt it will mark a breakthrough,” Musabayov said.

“The this meeting is not limited to finding a common denominator between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. There is a serious dispute between Turkmenistan and Russia. This has led to the fact that transport of Turkmen gas via Russia has not been resumed yet. This is a very urgent problem,” he said.

“I think it will be an attempt to work out some sort of a unified position on the status of the Caspian Sea and for closer cooperation between former Soviet republics on the Caspian Sea. I welcome this attempt. I hesitate to say whether it will mark a breakthrough,” the political expert said.
