Georgian PM dismisses economy minister

21 August 2009 [12:34] - TODAY.AZ
Georgian Economy Minister Lasha Zhvania is leaving his post and Health Minister Alexander Kvitashvili has received a final warning, the Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said at an special briefing.
The Prime Minister said the Ministry of Economy has created huge problems for the government, and so there is a need to take drastic measures.

"I have had a discussion with President Mikhail Saakashvili about Zhvania's resignation, and he took my arguments into consideration," said Gilauri.

He said because of a lack of coordination in the Ministry of Economy's work, Georgia cannot develop those investment programs that have already been approved and provided with funds.

"For example, this involves not registering an agreement with the Czech Republic on the protection of investments, which delayed the '100 New Hospitals' project, for which the Czech Republic issued ?125 million, and a project of the construction of an hydroelectric power station worth ?80 million," the Prime Minister said.
