Former Council of Europe secretary general calls Baku and Yerevan for compromised resolution to Karabakh conflict

“This (conflict resolution) can be achieved only on basis of compromise as the more the parties will seek to fully ensure their interests, the more will dangerous neglect last.”

Schwimmer recalled that the very fact that Azerbaijan and Armenia was admitted to the Council of Europe at the same time in January 2000 “was linked with the hope that both countries as members of the family of European democratic states will be able to reach a settlement suitable for both parties.”

“The solution to this conflict will be in the interests of both countries which, no doubt, instead of confrontation, deserve regional cooperation. People expelled from their homes deserve a safe return,”  Schwimmer said.
