Azerbaijan’s pro-opposition party not to join unions

17 August 2009 [09:55] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan’s pro-opposition Muasir Musavar party plans to get actively involved with the municipal elections to be held in December 2009, party chainman Hafiz Hajiyev said.
He said the party plans to nominate candidates for majority of municipalities.

“The party is holding territorial meetings at present. The meetings aim to raise interest of party members to municipal elections and determine which party member has more chances to win,” he said.

The party intends to participate independently in the elections. Negotiations conducted with a number of political organizations showed that majority of parties lack offices in country’s regions. So, it does not make sense to cooperate with these parties and enter into any blocs or alliances,” he said.

Number of municipalities have been reduced from 2,757 to 1,766 in Azerbaijan recently.
