Azerbaijan leads among former communist countries in Europe for coefficient of government’s legitimacy

In a regional group entitled Post Communist Europe, Azerbaijan holds first place leaving behind 21 countries in the Central and Eastern Europe and all countries located at the European part of the CIS (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia and Armenia).

Moreover, the author analyzed situation in 72 countries worldwide and divided them into 6 groups – West, Post Communist Europe, Middle East, Latin America, Asia and Africa.

Having studied and summarize data on the socio-economic and political development in these countries, the author ranks them  for “coefficient of government legitimacy.”

According to the results of the analysis, Azerbaijan ranks 9th  among of 72 countries for this indicator being preceded only by Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Canada, Austria, Finland, Sweden and the United States.

At the same time, Azerbaijan is ahead of other countries, including developed EU member states, Asia and Latin America.

In the list “birthplace of the Orange Revolution” - Ukraine occupies 56th position, “home to Rose Revolution” Georgia - 68, Turkey - 62, Armenia - 70 place and Russia - 72.

Gilly attributes Azerbaijan’s high rating to the fact that after the collapse of the Soviet Union and Heydar Aliyev’s accession to power, the authorities were able to rapidly mobilize mineral resources to ensure support for their actions on the part of society, having in view the fact that these resources and revenues from their sale to world markets were subordinated to the interests of rapid socio-economic development and socio-political stability.
