Azerbaijan hosts Palestinian, Afghan, Chechen refugees

28 July 2009 [15:04] - TODAY.AZ
There are problems with identification of the Chechen refugees in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs and Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov said.
“We asked the Russian authorities to identify them, but they have not helped us so far. SO, we can not specify who’s civilian and terrorist among them”, Hasanov said.

He added despite Russia announced the end of anti-terrorism operations, there are no talks about the return of Chechen refugees.

Hasanov said earlier there were nearly 12, 000 refugees from the third countries in Azerbaijan, but now this figure has reduced to 5, 000. Most of them are the Akhiska Turks.

There are Palestinian, Afghan and Chechen refugees in Azerbaijan as well, he said.
