Turkish language should be common language of Turkic-speaking countries: Azerbaijani official

22 July 2009 [16:37] - TODAY.AZ
The Turkish language should be common language of Turkic-speaking countries, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee on Culture said.
"There are different proposals on forming a common Turkic language. But they are still under discussion. There are some suggestions to take the defining features of each Turkic nation's language and to create a common language on their basis. But such artificially created languages do not exist long time. We believe the Turkish language should be the common one, as it has definite advantages. At the same time, the common Turkic language should never be accepted by an official decision," the Chairman of the Committee Nizami Jafarov said.

Jafarov said that the discussions on creating a common Turkic language are still underway.

"It is necessary for the Turkic-speaking countries to hold a meeting to create a common Turkic language," the parliamentarian said.
