BSU rector Abel Maharramov: Situation related to the mosque in the university’s area is unbearable

“The mosque in the area of the Baku State University (BSU) has been constructed for 18 years. It was built when the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party was in power. The mosque was not documented correctly at that time.

No agreement was reached with the higher education when the mosque was built in the territory of the university. The situation related to the mosque is unbearable at all”, said rector of the Baku State University Abel Maharramov while commenting on information spread about the closure of the mosque known as the faculty of theology of Baku State University. According to him, approximately 7-8 thousand come to do namaz there every Friday and it makes crowd the territory of the university. “Different incidents occur during that time and there is no control over them. Some forces can commit terrorist acts using this crowd. Our goal is not to close the mosque. There is no condition even for 150-200 people to do namaz there. To narrow it down, there is a need for serious discipline over there”.
