The 2nd International Neva Congress started in St. Petersburg, Russia, APA Moscow bureau reports.

The congress was organized by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and Russian Council of Federation. Vice Speaker of Azerbaijani parliament Bahar Muradova, chairmen of the parliament’s standing commissions Arif Rahimzadeh and Ali Huseynov, MP Elton Mammadov and permanent representative of the Azerbaijani parliament to the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Aydin Jafarov joined the congress. President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Valdimir Putin sent letters of congratulation to the participants. Chairman of the Russian Council of Federation Sergei Mironov and PACE President Luis Maria de Puig made reports on the goals and duties of the congress. The main goal of the Neva International Environmental Congress is the forming of international environmental security system, improvement of legislation on the use and management of natural resources, protection of biodiversity and prevention of environmental disasters. Azerbaijani parliamentarians Arif Rahimzadeh and Ali Huseynov attended the round tables organized in the framework of the congress and informed the participants about the work done in Azerbaijan in this field. The exhibition “Environmental security and energy resources” was organized within the congress.
