Bryza refutes his words again

12 May 2009 [12:54] - TODAY.AZ
U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Matthew Bryza refuted today reports claiming that he said that “Karabakh and other territories” will be returned to Azerbaijan in his interview given to Mediamax agency.
“The audio recording of my interview with “Ekho Moskvy” radio station shows that I did not say that “Karabakh and other territories” will be returned to Azerbaijan. What I did say was that, according to the Minsk Group's proposals, "territories" will be returned to Azerbaijan but that Nagorno Karabakh will acquire a new situation ("obstanovka"), the nature of which is the subject of negotiations”, U.S. negotiator stated today.

“I spoke about this mis-transcription with Ekho Moskvy's editor-in-chief, who immediately recalled that I did not utter the misquote above, but instead said that NK will acquire a new "obstanovka." The editor-in-chief just informed me that the transcript has now been clarified to reflect what I actually said. So, I urge all interested parties to look again at the Ekho Moskvy website. This incident points once again to the importance of journalists not jumping to rapid conclusions. If a journalist thinks a Minsk Group Co-Chair made a radical statement that departs from everything said until that point, the Co-Chair almost certainly did not make that statement”, Mathew Bryza stressed.
