PACE to discuss report on Azerbaijan on June 5: PACE vice-president

The PACE Monitoring committee will discuss the report at its next meeting in Paris on June 5, Seyidov said.

"The report by the PACE Co-Rapporteurs Andres Herkel and Eugenia Zhivkova will be prepared by late 2009 or 2010," he said.

During the PACE spring session, the Azerbaijani delegation did not meet with the newly appointed PACE Special Envoy on Azerbaijani political prisoners, Seyidov said.

"Azerbaijan believes appointment of such a rapporteur is not correct and does not meet unbiased criterion," he said.
The PACE appointed German Parliamentarian Chrisotopher Strasser as a special envoy on political prisoners in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani representatives do not agree with this appointment referring to absence of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
