To restore dialogue between Armenia, Azerbaijan requires patience: Russian FM

29 April 2009 [17:53] - TODAY.AZ
To restore a full dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan requires a patience and time, Russian Foreign Ministry official Andrey Nesterenko said in a briefing on Moscow, while commenting on the upcoming meeting of the two countries' heads, RIA Novosti reported.
"These problems exist for many years, these are too serious and sensitive problems for these countries' people living in the region. Therefore, a full-scale restoration which was lost requires great patience, political will and efforts," the diplomat said.

He said Moscow always supported and supports positive dynamics and will support this process.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
